Kayaks and Canoes

In 2015 we were very pleased to welcome Maldon and Dengie Canoe and Kayak Club (“MAD”) to the BSC.

The Club is a fun and friendly group of canoeists and kayakers who regularly get together to paddle out of Burnham Sailing Club. They also organise paddling trips throughout the year around the UK.SONY DSC

During season, the club meets each Wednesday at the BSC at 5.30 and aims to be on the water at 6pm.

Among the group are a number of fully qualified instructors who are always happy to help and are keen to teach other member’s new skills and techniques.

Additionally, M.A.D run pool training sessions for those who wish to give kayaking a try, learn the basics or elevate their skills and techniques to the next level, all in a safe warm environment under guidance of fully qualified instructors.

These sessions are held on the last Saturday of every month 6-7pm at South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre – a cost of £5 is charged during this session. Everyone is welcome to come along. Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult in the pool.

Given the club’s location, situated on the seawall of the tidal River Crouch, there is a strong focus on sea kayaking. However, M.A.D also caters for other disciplines (white water and inland touring) with regular trips organised on various rivers and canals.

Please note that MAD operates a two tier membership as follows:

  • Full membership – Allows for full use of the Burnham Sailing Club facilities, social events and monthly pool sessions, for fees click on the following link (BSC club membership)
  • Pool Session and Polo Members – Allows access to the monthly pool sessions and polo matches but not to the Burnham Sailing Club facilities. For fees click on the following link (M.A.D club membership form)
