Cruiser Racing Handicap system for 2018

There has been a lot of discussion over the winter period about handicap systems and which one would best for us. To help with the decision we have decided on the following.

Class 1 will continue to use the BSC local progressive system and IRC. (this is unchanged from last year)
Class 3 will continue to use the BSC local progressive system and we will trial NHC. This will allow us to compare each fleet with a known system and give us some data to work with.

2018 Sailing Season Information

After a very long winter our sailing season has finally arrived. This Wednesday 11th April sees the practice race for the cruiser fleets and next week 18th April (pontoon permitting) see’s Race 1 of the spring series for all fleets.

Please note we have changed the Keelboat Course Card  quite a bit so please download it from the website before Wednesday. (Remember the clanger trophy needs a home).

We have also made some changes to help with the smooth running of the club but we will need your support in helping us achieve this.

We have introduced a Safety boat roster to help the racebox team and to try and ensure that everyone who races gets as much racing as possible. We have tried to include as many people as possible on the roster but I am sure that some of the dates you have been assigned will clash with personal commitments. With this in mind if you cannot cover your shift please swap with someone else and let Karen Hamilton know. If you cannot find anyone to swap with then please give us as much notice as possible by contacting Karen and letting her know.

For those sailors that are covering their shift you will receive average points for the race calculated over the series.

We have also put together a rota which covers Friday nights activities like Galley duty , lockup, launching / recovery of Ribs etc.  We have tried to include as many as possible on the rota.  However if you feel you have been overlooked or would like to help out in some way please contact Fiona .

Remember it’s your club so thank you for supporting your club and I look forward to seeing you on the water.

Also, Sharina and Yim will be catering as usual: –

Booking is not required.  Whether your boat is ready or not come and enjoy the start of the season anyway!

Pre Season Update

With the sailing season nearly upon us I thought I would update you with whats happening at the club.
Since the storm wiped out our pontoon in January we have been very busy getting things in place so that it can be restored to its former glory. We are having new flooring placed on the ramp section to stop the wind getting underneath the pontoon. The existing piles are being straigthened, new piles being installed on the upstream side and the pontoon strenghtened with additional chains down each side. Everything is now in place for the work to commence and should be completed over the next few weeks.

We have also started work on the new accessible toilet and again this should be completed around the begining of April.

I would also like to remind you that membership fees were due in January and that your membership needs to be in place before you can sail or race at the club.

Finally I would like to thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you at the club soon.

HBSC Maylandsea Talk

We have been invited by the Harlow(Blackwater) SC in Maylandsea on 24th Feb at 19:30 Who are delighted to be welcoming Dick Holness from the East Coast Pilot website to talk about how the website came about and how it’s maintained, including all the useful pilotage notes which can be found there. As he’s coming a long way to join us, it would be great to have a good turn out for him.

If you’re unfamiliar with the website and it’s usefulness, here’s a link: http://www.eastcoastpilot.com/index.html
